Welcome to McKenna McNelly Photography! We are Crystal and Aaron, a husband and wife team based in the Cedar Valley, dedicated to creating timeless portraits that celebrate your unique story. Specializing in portrait and artistic photography, we proudly serve the Cedar Falls and Waterloo area.
A Little About Crystal & Aaron
Crystal, with her BFA in Photography, has been capturing beautiful moments since 2000. Her passion for creating stunning images shines through in every shot. Aaron, with a BA in Graphic Design, works his magic with expert graphics and retouching, adding those perfect finishing touches to make your photos truly shine. Together, we create portraits that are not only beautiful but deeply meaningful.
As parents of two children and two fur babies, family is at the heart of what we do. We understand the importance of cherishing memories and love having portraits of our family displayed in our home. We enjoy updating our family and children portraits, giving our home a new look and showing off our kids. We want the same for you, and enjoying helping other families do the same.
What You Can Expect
Our studio is a reflection of our passion for photography. We designed and built it ourselves, creating a space where you can feel comfortable and celebrated and yet a space focused on the portraits and photography. While we offer high quality prints and products and have many beautiful displays in our studio, we also embrace the digital age with a range of digital packages to fit your needs.
Our dedication to photography doesn’t stop at just your photo session. We believe in helping through out the whole process. First we discussing outfits, timing, and overall goal of the photo shoot, then we focus on your session. Once the session is complete we then schedule a viewing appointment with you. We go through the photos together on a projector screen or a Zoom appointment, comparing, taking notes for retouching and assisting you in deciding how you'd like to enjoy your portraits.
My Approach
Crystal as the photographer, has a classic style of photography, believing in capturing expressions and professional posing. Professional posing helps capture great angles that best fit each individual. As a photographer, she uses professional off camera lighting techniques to ensure that every portrait is perfectly lit and tailored to highlight your best features. By controlling the light, Crystal can create the ideal mood, bring out depth and texture, and achieve a beautifully balanced image. This approach allows her to have full creative control over the lighting, ensuring that the final result is both flattering and visually stunning.
